Protection Policy
Policy StatementBombastic is committed to safeguarding the
welfare of the children* we work with and has established the
following code of practice.
Bombastic believe that:
All children and young people have a right to be protected
from harm regardless of their age, gender, disability, culture,
language, racial origin, religious beliefs or sexual identity.
The aims of Bombastics
Child Protection Policy are:
- To
ensure the protection of all children and young people
we work with;
- To enable children and
young people we work with to participate in an enjoyable
and safe environment;
- To achieve best practice in
the area of child protection.
Best Practice principles:
- To always put the welfare of each
child or young person first, before achieving goals;
- To
treat all children and young people with respect and
dignity;
- To always work in an open environment
(e.g. avoiding private or unobserved
situations);
- To maintain a safe and appropriate
distance with children and young
people;
- To strive for equitable relationships
based on mutual trust which empowers
children and
young people
to share
in the
decision-making process;
- To ensure
that dance is fun, enjoyable and to promote healthy
safe practice;
- To maintain up
to date insurance policies and to ensure that
company risk assessment
guide-lines are
followed;
- To involve parents/carers/teachers/youth
leaders wherever possible
- To be an excellent role model this
includes not smoking
or drinking alcohol in the
company of
young people;
- To give
enthusiastic and constructive feedback
rather
than negative
criticism;
- To be aware
of the developmental needs
and capacity of young
people;
- To use language
that is free of
gender or
cultural bias.
Best Practice Procedures
- Full lesson
plans must be available
on
request to comply
with
insurance;
- When working in
schools, all performances
and
workshops
are
conducted
in
the presence of school
staff;
- Bombastic
teaches in
teams of
at least
two people,
unless a
relationship is
already established
with a
group, in
which case
an individual
may work
alone.
- Children are
supervised at
all times
during projects usually
this will be the
responsibility of the
school or host
organisation;
- Schools, venues
and other
partner organisations
we work
with are
expected to
comply with
health and
safety requirements;
- The company
finds out
about special
requirements of
children before
a workshop
commences. Teachers
or assistants
are requested
to be
provide adequate
support to
ensure the
children can
fully access
the activity
Bombastic offers;
- Any problems
that arise
are reported
to Bombastics
Manager who will
take appropriate action
and be addressed
in the future;
- The company
has a
risk assessment
policy for
workshops which
includes teacher
to pupil
ratio; teacher
presence at
all time;
safe environment;
- Keep a
written record
of any
injury that
occurs, along
with the
details of
any treatment
given. Submit
to Bombastics
Manager;
- Always ensure
that any
form of
physical touch
is appropriate
to the
lesson and
is provided
openly;
- Bombastic aims
to safeguard
the welfare
of all
dance leaders
working in
potentially volatile
situations with
young people;
- Bombastic undertakes
to ensure
contracted dance
leaders understand
their responsibilities
with regard
to child
protection and
will provide
them with
information,
training
and supervision
they need
for this
purpose
Recruitment
and
selecting staff
- Consent is
obtained
from
an applicant
to seek
information
from
the Criminal
Records Bureau.
Staff, freelancers
and volunteer
directors working
with children
are CBR
checked to
ensure that
no one
has a
conviction
for
criminal
offences
against children.
Responding
to suspicions
or allegations
- It
is
not
the responsibility
of anyone
working
at
or
for
Bombastic
to
take
responsibility
or to decide
whether
or
not
child
abuse
has
taken
place.
All suspicions
and
allegations
of abuse
will
be
taken
seriously
and
responded
to swiftly
and
appropriately.
Bombastics
Manager is the
first point of
contact for any
concerns.
This policy
relates
to all contracted
employees
and volunteers working
with Bombastic.
All staff and
free-lancers will
be
in receipt of this
policy.
Bombastic
is committed
to
reviewing
this
policy and
good
practice
regularly.

as
